The Oak Grove Foundation of DeKalb County Georgia, Inc., is a Georgia non-profit corporation with an application pending for tax exempt status under 501(c)(3). The Oak Grove Foundation is comprised of parents, teachers and administrators committed to establishing a long-term self-sustaining endowment for Oak Grove Elementary School. It is our mission to build on Oak Grove’s reputation for excellence by pursuing capital funding from a variety of sources.
The Foundation’s contributions will ensure a well-rounded student experience and cultivate a diverse community of life-long learners by accelerating achievement through teacher innovation, supporting technological advances and extracurricular enrichment programs.
Our school community is strong; however we face significant challenges ahead. At present we are struggling with an aging school and a growing student population, budget cuts, austerity measures, and furloughs for our teachers. Today Oak Grove receives only $42 annually per pupil to cover instructional needs and supplies. $42, for the entire year, that’s it.
The Foundation aims to provide resources for superior academic enrichment while also serving as a financial cushion for our school during lean budgetary times. We envision support for the following:
- dedicated foreign language teacher(s)
- innovative technology tools
- computer labs/science labs
- professional development for the staff
- extracurricular enrichments
- building and grounds improvements
Dekalb County has a limited amount of funds to support our school. The Foundation can make up the difference financially; it can also facilitate the difference between a good education and an exceptional one. Our public school system must serve many different purposes; The Foundation will serve one purpose: advancing student excellence, both academic and cultural, at Oak Grove Elementary.
